Stylish Television – Father Brown
Working from home can often mean you develop some guilty pleasures when it comes to your television viewing habits. My current guilty pleasure is Father Brown, starring the wonderful Mark Williams as GK Chesterton’s crime solving vicar. The current series is the fifth for the unlikely sleuth, who has solved a whole host of crimes with the help of his house keeper Mrs McCarthy and his friends Lady Felicia and her niece Bunty. It is a gentle, funny and totally watchable series that I watch whilst eating lunch, all the time trying to solve the crime too. Father Brown is set in the 1950s, and the lure of the beautiful…

Stylish television – Partners in Crime
It seems that Sunday nights at the BBC are determined to transport us back in time to the 1950s. Hot on the heels of The Outcast, we have ‘Partners in Crime’, based on Agatha Christie stories about Tommy and Tuppence Beresford, originally set in the 1920s, but moved forward in time to the 1950s. Jessica Raine plays Tuppence Beresford, a glamorous accidental detective with a wardrobe to just about die for. Partners in Crime may be set in the 1950s, but the wardrobe bares little resemblance to the full skirted prom style dresses and floral prints of The Outcast. (You can read all about the fashion of that series here.)…

Elizabeth – A true Queen of style
She’s just about to become a great grandmother all over again, and she has just celebrated her 89th birthday, but it would not be an exaggeration to say that our Queen, Elizabeth II, is having a moment. She is currently being played on Broadway by the beautiful Kristen Scott Thomas, and this month will see the release of a film ‘A Royal Night Out’ which tells of VE night 1945, when the young Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret were allowed to mingle with the crowds outside Buckingham Palace, and then enjoyed a night of freedom. I don’t mind admitting I am a huge fan of The Queen, for some quite random…

Land Ahoy! Push PR’s seaside inspired Press day
Last week was the start of a mammoth round of Spring/Summer Press days. Yes, whilst the weather is turning decidedly nasty, fashion is looking towards Spring/Summer 2013 and the promise of sunny skies and brighter days. First up on my very extensive list was Push PR, who were clearly enjoying getting into that Summer holiday mode with their showroom resembling a vintage style seaside town. Life buoys festooned the room, as did saucy cutouts to pose for those seaside snaps, whilst fishing nets were the perfect way to display the gorgeous jewellery of Alice Menter and Eastern Mystic. There were so many fab brands on display. Nelly’s formidable shoe collection…

The Queen of Style
I was asked to speak on my local Radio station,BBC Radio WM, yesterday, about our Queen. In particular, I was asked to speak about her style, her designers and her clothes. Because, although she may not be the name you immediately think of when discussing stylish royals, the Queen is undoubtedly one very stylish lady, perfectly able to set trends, and one whose 1950s wardrobe was full of the most beautiful outfits that continue to inspire today. The first really iconic dress worn by our Queen was the wedding dress she wore to her 1947 wedding to Prince Philip. Designed by Norman Hartnell, this was a stunning blend of wedding…
