Kate Middleton – Latest Outfits

It’s been a busy week for Duchess Kate. The state visit of the Chinese President has seen Kate attend her first state banquet, and she has also met Jackie Chan and attended multiple occasions in Scotland. For lovers of Kate’s style, it has been a real fashion bonanza, because she has, quite frankly, looked amazing for every occasion, with the Dolce and Gabbana Marsala dress being one of my favourite Kate looks ever.

Here are three outfits from this week in a bit more detail.

Look 1 – State Banquet.

Red is always a great colour for Kate, and the Jenny Packham dress was a beautiful, formal choice. This dress did remind me of the sort of styles Princess Diana opted for in the late 80s for some reason, and I did think that Kate played it just right for the occasion – with red being a perfect colour for China, and the dress being elegant and demure.

Red is a great choice for Christmas formal occasions and there are some stunning red looks around if you want to take inspiration from Kate for the upcoming party season.

Look 2 – Dolce and Gabbana Lace

This is one of my favourite Kate Middleton looks ever. Some have commented that it is a shame Kate didn’t opt for purely British designers during this week, but this marsala lace dress was a spectacular triumph for Kate, with the lace managing to be both classic and totally modern. It is just the epitome of chic, and totally what a 21st century princess should be choosing to wear.

Look 3 – Christopher Kane in Scotland

Kate wore one of the brightest stars of British fashion for a series of appointments in Scotland (Dundee to be precise.) The Christopher Kane coat and dress is another sleek and stylish look that is perfect in its minimalism.

kate-now--zA blue coat is a great alternative to classic black, it adds a little bit of colour to the wardrobe but seems to be a colour that suits most hair colours and skin tones.

Get the celebrity look featuring Duchess Kate, Poppy Delavingne and Sai Bennett

It’s time for another round-up of some of the hottest celebrity looks that have been appearing in gossip columns and fashion pages over the past month. This month’s post has a bias towards some of the first ladies of television, with High Street looks from breakfast television stars Charlotte Dawson and Laura Tobin, along with some pretty Topshop accessories worn by Mr Selfridge star Sai Bennett.

We also have a little bit of a British classic label, Jaeger, with pieces from the latest collection being worn by Donna Air and model Jasmine Guinness as a new flagship store was launched. Another model, the newly wed Poppy Delavingne, looks just gorgeous in a pure silk shirt from Topshop Unique.

Sparkle is provided in this post by the ever lovely Claudia Winkleman, who is currently doing a sterling job presenting ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ with Tess Daly, and is showing why the High Street favourite French Connection should be at the top of every list if you are looking for a fabulous Christmas party frock. Her shimmering blue sequined number is my favourite piece from this blogpost – it is amazing!

Finally, we have the return of Duchess Kate, who has been feeling poorly during the early stages of her second pregnancy. Kate had three engagements last week, and I hope to go into these in more detail at a later date. In the meantime, I am focusing on her Temperley London black gown which had beautiful panel detailing, and offering a couple of looks for those who wish to get a similar look.

Reviewed – Navy Lace Shift Dress from Kaliko

Last Thursday saw one of the most swish, stylish events in the Midlands fashion calender. The Harvey Nichols fashion show is always full of fashion, fizz and supremely stylish looks – an event where everyone dresses to impress. I was a little stumped for what to wear for this particular show as it was taking place in a specially constructed space in the Mailbox car park, so I was worried it might be a little cold, and I also wanted something bright to stand out amongst the grey and concrete. Luckily, Kaliko had the perfect dress.

Kaliko is part of the Jacques Vert group, (along with Planet, Precis Petite and Windsmoor), and I feel it really understands the art of occasion dressing, producing pieces which are grown up and timeless. Their dresses are elegant, but they are not frumpy, and this is down to the precision of the cut, and the use of bright colour, pulling women away from just wearing a little black dress. This season, there are, once again, an abundance of lace dresses, still taking inspiration from the Duchess of Cambridge, who opts for lace styles again and again.

DSCN9425I found this dress absolutely perfect for me. It has 3/4 sleeves that are nicely fitted to the arms without being tight, with a sheer lace look that is so pretty. The v neckline is flattering for a larger bust, and this is my preferred skirt length, sitting just on my knee. The lace body of the dress is conservatively lined, with no see-thru bits to worry about.  The concealed back zip makes this easy to get on and off, but again, due to a little stretch in the fabric, I can get this on over my head – great if there is no one to zip you up and you failed contortion-ism class.

DSCN9424I just teamed this dress with my favourite sparkly Westwood Melissa’s, and an oversized silver clutch bag. I think silver is a lovely option for accessories with this shade of blue (almost blue/purple in some lights), although I think gold could be really nice too, especially if you are wearing the dress to a Christmas party.

A close up of the fabric.

I think this dress was a really successful choice for the fashion show, I felt comfortable wearing it and when I switched to flat silver pumps (to run for the train – oh the glamour!) I think it still worked well.
