Halloween Fashion From New Look

In the car this morning, as I once again tried to avoid sleep walking through the school run, a song came on the radio that immediately made me smile. It was ‘The Monster Mash’ by Bobby-Boris Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers, a classic Halloween song that was a hit in both the 1960s and 1970s and has been played at a million Halloween parties every year since. It reminded me that Halloween is less than two weeks away, and that I had yet to have looked at the Halloween fashion which has sort of been a tradition since I started this blog. So here it is.

This year I decided to have a look at the Halloween range from High Street fave New Look. who I genuinely think have played a blinder this year, with a range that covers everything from casual t-shirts to beautiful dresses and skirts that could be worn for Halloween, and will then be dressy enough to be worn through the festive season that follows.

New Look has created a collection that allows you to add a little bit of Halloween to your wardrobe without a huge expense. There are cute pumpkin earrings that cost just £1.99, a fabulously creepy spider choker for less than a fiver, and a great range of spooky t-shirts that cost less than £10, which I think is a great bargain.

I have highlighted some of my fave pieces below.

Will you be dressing up this Halloween?

A Dark Fairytale at Chi Chi London

Chi Chi London is always a great place to find fairytale dresses. Beautiful pastel colours, full 1950s style skirts, acres of lace and tulle, Chi Chi has dresses that you only dream of. But this season, it is turning to the dark side of the fairy story, just in time for Halloween. These are dresses and looks that are gothic, glamorous and dramatic.

Chi Chi describes the Dark Fairytale collection as bringing

‘…new edge to the classic Chi Chi look via daring cuts, darker shades and edgy accessories…’

All the usual Chi Chi elements of elegance and femininity are still there, the full skirts, the lace and ribbons, but these dresses have a more dangerous edge, you can imagine them being worn by the bad girl from the Fairy Story, they are more Wicked Queen (definitely channeling Angelina as Maleficent) than Snow White, and all the better for it.

Not all the dresses are black. The Leticia dress is in mink and brings to mind the dishevelled Kinder Whore looks of Courtney Love, Amanda De Cadenet and Babes in Toyland in the early 1990s. Just add a plastic tiara and you are ready to go.

The collection also shows that Bardot styles show no sign of going away, as with the design of the exquisite Octavia and Maryam dresses. The Maryam, in particular, is so on trend for Autumn 2017 as it is in this season’s red shade, and will serve you well at parties right into the festive season, especially when teamed with the Chi Chi Manda heels.

Halloween fashion ‘thrillers’

When you ask most people what they love about the month of October, they will probably mention Halloween in their answer. At one time Halloween seemed to be more popular in America than in the UK, but that is no longer the case. Trick or Treat, Halloween parties and dressing up are all much anticipated and enjoyed, and, as the end of the month is drawing ever nearer, people are beginning to think about their costumes.

There are plenty of celebrities to take your Halloween inspiration from, because, let’s face it, some celebrities love nothing more than getting dressed up in their best spooky costumes come All Hallows Eve. Kim Kardashian, Kate Moss, Heidi Klum, Hilary Duff and Christina Aguilara have all been photographed in some pretty amazing costumes over the years, although for some, the link to Halloween is more tentative. (Yes, I’m talking to you Kim.)

Topshop has launched a fantastic Halloween section which allows you to bring the fashion of the witching hour into your daily wardrobe. These are pieces you could wear to attend an Halloween party if you wanted to avoid a full costume, or just fun items that you could wear almost anytime of the year. I love the Spooky embroidered slippers that have just a touch of Charlotte Olympia to them, and the metallic cross back midi dress is super sexy and would look so glam teamed with a black Morticia wig and the red devils horns.

I’m ending this post in a slightly different way by sharing two of my favourite Halloween themed songs – Just because. Enjoy!
