Mr Selfridge – Totally seduced by the style and shopping.
After a weekend of ill-health, I finally got around to catching up properly with ‘Mr Selfridge’ last night. I was totally dazzled and enchanted, as I had expected to be, with the fascinating story of Harry Gordon Selfridge, played in the series by Jeremy Piven, and the iconic department store he created, bought to life on the small screen. All those instantly recognisable features, the wonderful window displays, the luxurious fixtures and fittings, the Art Nouveau style lifts, it was all there, albeit in a 1909 version. Mr Selfridge was a retail visionary. So much about the way we enjoy shopping is down to him, from the opportunity to be…

Style Icons of the Year – Anna Friel’s Stage Door Style
Has any women since the London heyday of Tallulah Bankhead ever had the stage door style of Anna Friel? The actress, currently starring in Uncle Vanya at the Vaudeville, has mastered the art of looking totally captivating every evening as she leaves the theatre after her performance, in a series of immaculate, highly styled looks. Anna’s stage door appearance is now as eagerly anticipated as her on stage one. Every evening, hoards of photographers wait to see what image and era she will be channelling next. There have been Pucci style mini dresses, and 1940s fur-trimmed coats. A risqué pink blouse exposed that Anna wasn’t wearing a bra, whilst her…

Boohoo knitb4xmas – simply fabulous
It was the knitb4xmas and all through the house, not a single soul stirred, they were all in the Ice Bar! I attended my first Christmas event last week, and it was simply Sublime. Those wonderful people at Boohoo.com and 7thingsmedia had combined to create the ultimate introduction to Christmas. All the key ingredients for a fabulous Christmas were there, mulled wine and gingerbread cocktails, a festive choir in full, seasonal song, and more Christmas jumpers than you could shake a stick at. Add in a trip to Ice Bar, a genuine, unique experience, where you enjoy your freezing cold drinks at temperatures of minus 2, and you have a…

Next launches a stunning new fragrance range
A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a very exciting product launch by Next. To be held at the plush Hempel Hotel in London, and concerned with all things fragrance, beauty and pampering, I was really looking forward to the event when disaster struck. My three-year old bumped his head at school and ended up with an injury that required hospital treatment. Instead of a luxurious pampering event I spent an afternoon in a minor injuries unit. This was a real shame as I am a huge fan of Next fragrance. I have been using Just Pink for many years, and often find it in my Christmas stocking…

Kate wears Temperley to greet the athletes
At a reception at Buckingham Palace to salute Britain’s golden summer and the wonderful athletes created it, Duchess Kate showed off a new dress that has so far received decidedly mixed reviews. The black and gold dress from Alice Temperley has been described as being too ‘busy’ with floral applique panels, a frilled skirt which also had a pleated panel, and a silk sash belt at the waist, there was certainly a lot going on. But, in my opinion, this does not distract from the beauty of the gown, which I think was perfect in it’s cocktail length, beautiful embellishment, and also in the use of gold as a motif.…
