Celebrity dress special featuring Lupita Nyong’o, Sandra Bullock and Sophie Ellis Bextor

If there is one item of apparel I couldn’t live without, it’s the dress. From short, flirty mini’s, to fabulous full length evening wear, my wardrobe is 75% dress, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Like most people, I take inspiration for my frocks from a range of sources, and TV and the Red Carpet are certainly amongst the places I look to.

This month there have been a flurry of red carpet events which the High Street have been quick to respond to. Some of the ladies at these key events have actually been sporting the best of the High Street themselves. Television presenter Zoe Hardman looked fantastic at the Brits in a silver dress that was from Dorothy Perkins, whilst best supporting actor nominee Michael Fassbender took his mom as his date to the Oscars, and she wowed the red carpet in Phase Eight. There are also some similar looks to those worn by Lupita Nyong’o and Sandra Bullock, from Phase Eight and Coast respectively.

In a more casual, less dressy vein, Holly Willoughby continued her championing of the dress on This Morning in a very pretty, and totally springlike dotted dress from Closet Clothing.

A bit of Ossie Clark

The revival of the iconic brand Ossie Clark by Debenhams continues to go from strength to strength. I love the Biba-esque styling of this Sophie Ellis Bextor image – she is wearing the Iconic jumpsuit in black. This doesn’t seem to be available on the Debenhams site at the moment, but there is a dress version, as well as the stunning blue version pictured here. Kay Adams from Loose Women also shows just how lovely the Ossie Clark dresses are, albeit with a more daytime feel.

And finally…Grace Kelly Style from Phase Eight

I couldn’t leave this rundown without mentioning the totally beautiful Grace Kelly style dresses that form part of the new collection from Phase Eight. Top of the list is this gorgeous Amalfi floral print dress – just the prettiest dress I have seen in a long time.

Grab your perfect evening dresses and a Bank Holiday bargain

My parents celebrate a very special milestone at the end of the year, celebrating 40years of marriage. To celebrate this very special occasion, we’ve been looking for something special to do as a family, and one of the most popular ideas has been to do a cruise. All the brochures showing cruises 2014 are already in the travel agents, and the Med is looking a likely destination. 2014 could be a very exciting time.

Cruising is one of my favourite ways to holiday, the photographs above were taken when I last cruised the Med in 2009. I guess one of the main reasons for me loving the lure of the cruise ship is that you get the opportunity to really dress up every single night, something that us non-celebs never really experience. Cruising is one of those pastimes that requires a new, knockout wardrobe, a real excuse for a splurge, and, as it is a holiday that can really be enjoyed all year around, now really is a great time if you want to treat yourself to a cruise wardrobe.

Debenhams is currently offering a very special bank holiday bonanza, offering 20% off its Debut range. This particular collection is full of what I would call proper evening dresses, the sort perfect for cruises, weddings and proms.

There are also some great savings to be made on the elegant retro styles of the Ossie Clark collection, although you may find it hard to resist the stunning 1970s influenced Ossie dress in vibrant, glossy red.

Uniqlo and Celia Birtwell – It’s here!

This is definitely one of the most anticipated High Street and designer collaborations ever. The legendary textile designer Celia Birtwell, the lady behind those iconic Ossie Clark prints, has collaborated with cool Japanese brand Uniqlo to create a series of pretty basics and much lusted over scarves and stoles. Taking those same iconic prints that once adorned the coolest of 1970s stars as the starting point, the prints have then been rescaled, recoloured and the reworked in order to make them fresh and irresistable for 2013.

Sure to be a total sell out, and with models Portia Freeman and Charlotte Pallister fronting an eye-catching campaign, this is a collection you need to have in your wardrobe. And with those famous Uniqlo prices, this is a designer collaboration you can actually afford to treat yourself too.
