Bad Apple Hair Event at Topshop Birmingham

A couple of weeks ago I attended a glamorous evening of hair and fashion at Birmingham’s Topshop store in the Bullring. The event was to celebrate the launch of the Bad Apple Hair salon based in the store, and to get a chance to look at some of the latest arrivals in fashion, as chosen by the girls of the personal shopping team. It was a fun event that certainly brought colour and cheer to what was already a very grim January.

Topshop launched their personal shopping service last Summer, with the idea being that you could use it to help with a wardrobe update, to look for something specific for a special occasion, or even get together with a group of friends for a girly afternoon of fashion. The girls of the fashion department had put together some amazing transitional looks which focused on beautiful knitwear, wide legged trousers and jeans, and a couple of exquisite coats to remind us that although we are thinking of Spring, it is still very much Winter, and oh so cold with it.

With fellow blogger Sarah

Colour was very well represented, from the gorgeous yellow coat teamed with a jade green bag, to this season’s new lilac shade, ripped from the hands of 1980s bridesmaids, and now a seriously hot colour. I loved most of the picks, which were colourful and fun, although I think I would need a lot of persuading to give dungarees a go!

Following on from the fashion, the stylists from Bad Apple Hair were on hand to show us some styles that are going to be big news in 2018. They showed a range of hair styles and hair stories to suit every hair type. These ranged from low ponytails of the type sported by Gwyneth Paltrow, to mushed up coloured looks that are both directional, and low maintenance.

We were given a chance to have a good look around the shiny new salon, which is perfectly placed to combine shopping and  pampering. The salon looks gorgeous, surprisingly more spacious than I would have believed, and with a contemporary look that is sure to prove popular with the cool crowd who love Topshop. The big screen showing videos is certainly a nice touch.

With thanks to Topshop. Bad Apple Hair and the Brum Bloggers for the Invite.

Friday Fashion – What’s New In Stores

If you are now truly sick and tired of trawling the sales and want to see something new, then this post is just the medicine you need. We are now at my favourite point of the sales, where discounts are up to 70% off, but this can also mean lots of rails of damaged clothing, in no particular order, where mess is the order of the day, and this is certainly not for everyone.

But we are now starting to see some new season pieces in store, along with new pieces that are still perfect for the cold Wintry weather we will have for at least another six weeks or so. Today I am concentrating on a few brands. First is Topshop. I was at an event in the Birmingham Bullring store last night and fell in love with the bright and beautiful new knits that would frankly brighten the dull, foggy days we seem to be stuck with at the moment. Some of the jumpers have a hint of the knitting my nan used to do when I was a child, and this only makes me love them more.

Next is a definite pointer to Spring with the gorgeous Chi Chi London Delicate Dream collection. This is a gorgeous range that incorporates lace, florals and springlike pastels, and is sure to be a celebrity favourite so get in there first.

Speaking of celebrity, I have a great get the look of Meghan Markle’s engagement outfit from New Look, and the style picks from Next from Big Brother’s Emma Willis, who has curated a collection called Emma Loves. It is safe to say that this Emma loves it too.

Happy Shopping!

Molly Goddard X Topshop

The much anticipated shoe collaboration between Topshop and rising fashion star Molly Goddard is finally available in store and online. First seen on the runway at Molly’s shows last September, the collaboration is a capsule collection of eight pairs of shoes and boots which combine Topshop cool with Molly’s quirky style.

Molly Goddard is one of the most exciting rising stars in fashion. Much loved by Uber Blogger Susie Bubble, Goddard’s style is a little like an explosion in a tutu factory meshed with all the best elements of the dressing up box. She loves tulle, frothy ice cream colours and net, but these ultra feminine touches can be teamed with mannish t-shirts with outlandish prints giving Molly’s designs a touch of the unexpected.

She has gathered quite an array of celebrity fans, with Ferne Cotton championing Molly on the red carpet. Last year, model Agyness Deyn got married in a beautiful Molly creation. Rihanna also raised the designer’s profile further when she was photographed in a green creation that was colourful, beautiful and slightly crazy – only Rihanna could’ve worn it.

The eight piece Molly Goddard X Topshop collection comprises of designs in suede and leather. I generally tend to love heels, but in this collection it is all about the flats, particularly in the metallic silver shade that I think will be a big story again this Spring. My fave picks are the sandals – the tie flats are just so good and will look great with a skater skirt or cropped jeans. The calf boots are incredible too, and of course are perfect for wearing right now.
