Your Five – fashion and beauty at Bullring

Your Five is a special fashion and beauty showcase and preview organised by the Bullring shopping centre twice yearly. The idea is a personalised, one to one appointment where you are able to talk about the key trends for the season, and are shown a range of pieces that fit the trend and are available from Bullring stores. The items chosen scan a range of budgets and stores, with Ted Baker, Oasis, New Look, Reiss and Miss Selfridge all represented this time around.  You can choose your favourites from each catagory and they are photographed and then sent to your email address, with stockist details and prices so that you can always shop for them at a later date.

I was feeling very ropey this weekend, suffering from a cold and streaming eyes, but I made my way to look at the key season trends that Bullring had selected. With Winter clearly in mind, coats were a big talking point, and I loved so many of those selected, with beautiful wool coats in soft shades from both Reiss and Ted Baker, but my favourite was the Crombie style coat in animal print from New Look – definitely added to my shopping list. Ankle boots were the shoe focus, with metallics being very popular, but I was more drawn to the coloured suede versions from Clarks and New Look.

The trouser trend is moving away from skinny fits and into stylish wide leg styles that evoke the 1930s and 1970s. I loved the Topshop bottle green cropped versions that I think would look stunning worn Jane Fonda ‘Klute’ style, with a skinny polo neck and knee high boots. The skirt selection was also just stunning, with pleats, net, tulle, leather and metallics all available in beautiful abundance. I love that so many of the skirts are knee and midi length, and just loved the elegance of the full skirted variety.

As well as fashion, Your 5 also looks at beauty, with a focus on a red lip. This is something I tend not to wear as I never think red suits me – as much as I love it. However, I was really pleased with the colour chosen for me, red with a more coral tint from Chanel (148 I think) and it certainly made me look again at my aversion to lip pencil and red lips.

Topshop Halloween Edit

Halloween is fast becoming one of the most anticipated days (or nights!) of the year. From being a night that saw children doing a little trick or treating, it has become a celebration for all the family, with all ages getting themselves dressed up in costumes, enjoying parties, club nights and scary movies on what it the spookiest of all nights.

Topshop does an Halloween edit every year, famously supplying Zoe Ball’s Strictly Halloween dress which resembled a mummy, and this year they have once again surpassed themselves, with a collection that truly stretches from the sublime to the hilarious. Lace headpieces and masks, socks with bats and ghost motifs and this year’s skeleton bodycon dress are all perfect additions to Halloween wardrobes, but there are also glamorous pieces that would work for Halloween, and then could be slinky, sensuous choices for Christmas party season. Velvet leggings have that Catwoman feel, whilst the stunning Laser cut bardo prom dress is a dead ringer for Self Portrait and is an absolute beauty of a frock.

If you like to keep your Halloween fashion touches to a minimum, you can focus on accessories. I tend not to dress up at Halloween, keeping everything gothic with black eye make up, lace and leather. I love the black widow lipstick and the gram flared heeled shoes which are so on trend in this season’s velvet.

Whatever you have planned for Halloween this year, Topshop is well worth checking out.

I’m going to finish this post in the traditional Halloween way. One of my favourite spook films is 1980s classic ‘The Lost Boys’ and I love the Echo and the Bunnymen version of ‘People are Strange’. Enjoy.

Topshop’s New Maternity Collection – Adding star style to your bump wardrobe

We all cope with pregnancy in different ways. Some women absolutely love being pregnant and look gorgeous and glowing throughout. Others, like me, feel sick and ill, look terrible, and can’t wait for it to end. I felt awful throughout, and this made clothes very important to me – they were something I could control and a way of feeling myself. I trawled the internet for stylish items that would allow me to retain my own personal look – I just didn’t want to live in ill fitting, maternity jeans alone.

Luckily, maternity fashion is one area that has shown real improvement in style and choice in the past ten years, and this week Topshop has launched a great focus piece on their website where they have put together a series of looks that can take you from work to date night, from casual stay at home style to the weekend and the school run. It is great to find a key brand like Topshop, which has a real fashion forward ethos, concentrating on maternity fashion, and I have to say, from experience, that the Topshop maternity range is great – a stretchy vest top and black skirt were two items I purchased from the store when I was expecting Joe, and I absolutely lived in them.

I have featured the five key looks here, Office Look, The Weekend Uniform, The Brunch Date, The Date Night and The School Run, and also some stylish inspiration from some pregnant and amazing fashionista’s. So if you do have a happy event upcoming this year, and are looking for a little style inspiration in the meantime, step this way and have a look at what Topshop has to offer.
