Fashion Focus – Rain Boots

Wellington boots, wellies, rain boots, whatever it is you choose to call them, we are certainly now well into the season when these become an indispensable part of your wardrobe. This could be because you love to walk your dog over open fields and park land, or maybe you work in an outside environment that gets rather muddy, or maybe, like me, these are now a staple for watching your child football training in all weathers, including, last Saturday, in the biting wind and rain. I must admit that I love the fun and practicality of wearing my wellies, and have quite a few pairs in my wardrobe.

There are so many great styles and brands when you are looking for women’s rain boots, the rather functional or childlike designs of the past, which either looked like they were designed for farmers, or for splashing in puddles, have given way to glossy designs, with cute patterns and prints, and more stylish, feminine shapes. Brands like Hunter have made wellies cool, a part of festival fashion that helps revelers to cope with the inclement British weather (and all that mud!). Joules is another company that makes rain boots actually look pretty, with dots and stripes that work well worn over jeans, or even Land Girls style with a tea dress and cardigan.

Even designers are now getting into the act, with both Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren offering super stylish versions of the once humble rain boot. None of us are ever that glad to see the rain, but these designs certainly help to brighten up the day in some small part.

Cuterainboots.net are currently offering you the chance to choose the best rain boots brand but picking between Hunter and Joules. It is easy to enter the competition, and you could win a pair of rain boots of your choice. (Terms and conditions apply – please check the website). This would certainly get your feet prepared for Winter and any snow we might get.

Do you wear wellies or rainboots? What are your favourite brand?

Brave the rain with cute rain boots

After a lovely dry Summer, and a fairly mild Autumn, it is safe to say that the rain has made an unwelcome appearance, making the school run a rather wet and uncomfortable  experience. I live in a semi-rural area, where drains are prone to overflow, pavements are often covered in deep puddles, and the grassy verges turn to mud very quickly. In these situations, fashion goes out of the window, and I turn to the wellies.

However, these days turning to Wellington’s doesn’t actually mean turning away from fashion and style. There are lots of really cute rain boots around, many of which can be found on a site called, funnily enough,  Cute Rain Boots. This site has a large collection of wellies from brands such as Joules, Hunter, Crocs, and a range of new brands too. I was recently sent a gorgeous pair of Navy Spot Wellies from Joules, currently celebrating 25 years in business, and was really impressed with just how nice they were and how they were packaged.

Love the packaging – a cute drawstring bag.

The boots are made from a tough rubber, and has a thick sole which will definitely keep you upright if we have ice and snow to face. The boots are the higher leg version, but have an adjustable strap on the side that gives a little more leg room if it is required.

I loved the pattern, it is almost 1950s in the polka dot design, and the navy and blue colour way is perfectly complimented by the red and white stripe of the lining. The colours have that distinctly British feel that Joules is famous for. These are style classics that will keep your feet dry and protected all Winter long, and will then look cool enough for those always muddy Summer festivals.

Weathering the storm – grab your Wedge Wellies

I’ve been a little obsessed with Wedge Wellies since I first spotted them on Dragon’s Den. The idea of a stylish Wellington boot that could also offer the height, and the glamour of a wedge heel was something that really appealed to the side of me that hates flat shoes.  In the years since that Dragon’s Den episode, the not so humble boots have moved on from strength to strength. And, with the UK facing some extreme weather conditions this week involving the possibility of flooding, it seems appropriate to pay tribute to the force of shoe nature that is the Wedge Welly.

Wedge Wellies offer so much in the way of pattern and style, giving you real options when it comes to matching your wellies to the rest of your wardrobe. Because, let’s face it, if we end up with anything like the snow of last winter, we will be wearing those boots quite a bit as we make our way to work, do the school run and generally try to make our way around in some decidedly dodgy conditions. The Wedge Welly, with its use of shiny patent and croc patterns, and gorgeous prints that range from sexy animal designs to cute Scottie Dog prints, have cornered the market in making wellies fun and fashionable.

If the fabulous designs haven’t tempted you to invest in a pair of Wedge Wellies, then the lure of great quality should do the trick.  Made from High Content Rubber that make them hard wearing and durable, these boots are 100% waterproof, with many also coming with adjustable side strap. There are also designs available in wide fit, if, like me, you have more muscular or fleshy calves. All, in all, there are designs that suit absolutely everyone – even those who don’t actually like wedge heels!
