Get Your Festival style sorted

Festival season will soon be upon us, and this year sees the biggie back, with Glastonbury once again promising to be memorable. Festivals are a great mixture of great style, great music, and, notoriously bad weather, but they are a part of Summer to enjoy and savour, whether you go for a single day or enjoy the whole camping/glamping experience.

Festivals in the UK are as famous for the inclement weather as they are for the music, and weather does tend to govern festival fashion. Unlike Coachella, white is never a good idea at British festivals, one downpour and that lovely fresh field becomes a total quagmire. That said, there have been some amazing festival fashion over the years, with Kate Moss being the reigning Queen of festival fashion, but with the likes of Lily Allen, Alexa Chung and Millie Mackintosh also showing us how it’s done.

British festival style is a cool mixture of Hunter Wellies, cut off denim hotpants worn with either shabby chic knitwear, tie and die, or vintage cotton. The aim of the look is to be eclectic, this mish mash of styles works to create a look that is both unique and practical, whatever the weather decides to throw at you.

Camping or Glamping?

Festivals often mean camping, with most festival goers setting up their own tents for the duration. But, if like me, camping is not your thing, and you prefer home comforts and luxury whilst enjoying the atmosphere of the festival, then maybe glamping is a better option for you.

The Yurtel Steanbow experience is the most luxurious way to experience Glastonbury this year, the one that I am sure Kate Moss would well appreciate. From deluxe bell tents, to Yurts full of home comforts, to the absolute creme de la creme, the luxury suites that come complete with cosy rugs, a shower room and front decking from which to enjoy the views of Glastonbury Tor, the experience allows you to enjoy all the fun of the festival, but to then chill out with Spa treatments, and to enjoy a la carte dining with not a dodgy burger in sight.

This is definitely the way to enjoy Glastonbury if you are just there for the music, and want to avoid the burger vans, portaloos and too much mud.

Are you going to a festival this year? Will you be camping or glamping?

Celebrity Get the Look featuring Emma Watson, Jessica Alba and Alison Williams

Today’s Get the Look is more about ideas to get a similar look, rather than finding the identical items wore by the stars. That said, we still have a few actual ‘get the looks’ from The One Show’s Alex Jones, a lady who always seems to spark early evening discussions about ‘where did she get that?’ on Twitter.

Shall we make a start? Let’s begin the sartorial tour through a few sought after looks.

Alex Jones wears Ted Baker and Wallis

I have to say I’m a huge fan of Alex’s smart, but laid back style. Recently she wore this gorgeous, ruffle sleeved top from Ted Baker on The One Show  (sorry no picture). This is a lovely piece to wear with jeans to add Spring to your wardrobe. In addition, Wallis added a picture to their Instagram feed of Alex wearing one of their leather jackets. Now, the jacket doesn’t seem to be available at present, but Wallis has said that there will be a white version of this in stock sometime this Spring. In the meantime, I have added another couple of jackets from Wallis that are similar to Alex’s look. One is a cheaper ‘pleather’ option, whilst the second is a very covetable suede one in a great stone colour way.

Emma Watson in J Mendel

I usually love Emma Watson’s style, but had been seriously underwhelmed by some of her recent choices, particularly, the rather drab dress she wore to the Oscars. But how she redeemed my faith in her with this jumpsuit from J Mendel. Seriously sleek and businesslike, this was more like the fashion forward Emma whose style I love. You can get the look with these separates from Wallis.

Alison Williams

Marnie is not my favourite girls character, that would have to be the irrepressible and outrageous Jessa. But Alison Williams is fast becoming one of my favourite style stars. She is just effortlessly cool and glamorous. This is one of my fave looks from the lady recently, and again, this is a look that can be achieved with pieces from Wallis, including amazing trousers from the latest W collection.

Kylie on The Voice

The Live shows are well and truly underway, but for week after week, we were treated to Kylie in this Little Black dress.  Trawling through the Dorothy Perkins website this week, I noticed that the Bardot style dress below was a perfect way to get Kylie’s Bardot look on a budget.

Kate Middleton Style at Kaliko

Kate Middleton was out and about on Monday, sporting the High Street again in a Hobbs Coat, but I am thinking back a couple of summer’s to the teal Jenny Packham dress that has to be one of my fave Kate looks of all time. Kaliko obviously feel the same and have produced a long and short version of this dress, called ‘The Middleton’ of course.

Jessica Alba style from Zalando

Another lady who I believe is actually incapable of getting it wrong is Jessica Alba. Whether on the red carpet, or out and about, Jessica is the epitome of style. I love her casual take on this season’s jumpsuits, and you can get a similar look from Zalando.

Kate Moss wears Muubaa

I love Kate Moss, and I love Muubaa, and I will let them explain to you the thinking behind this very special look.

“Kate Moss is wearing a customised studded version of our Gilet in the latest Rimmel campaign, ‘Rockin Curves’. Part of this campaign is the Rimmel LFW Makeover Bus that you might have seen driving around London in the past week. We lent the gilet to stylist Katy England for the shoot and she asked if she could customise it – Kate Moss then loved the gilet so much that she requested to keep it!”

Style Icon of the Month September – Kate Moss

She’s been around what seems like forever, but she’s always in my heart when it comes to style, and this month, the newly married Kate Moss reappeared on the scene with a whole host of totally covetable looks,  showing the young fashion upstarts that, when it comes to fashion and style, Kate still sets the bar pretty high.

From high-octane glamour, to 1970s style double denim that seems to have been based on Anita Pallenburg at Nellcote 1972, Kate has worn a range of looks that have impressed. She has worn full length and fabulous gowns, little black cocktail dresses and even a jumpsuit once worn by Cheryl Cole, and has pulled off all the looks with little of no effort. And, like the other Kate I adore (the Duchess for those unsure!), she has shown that recycling from your wardrobe is a way of making your clothes work for you. And, when the clothes in question are those amazing Terry Di Havilland Margeaux platform wedges,  can you blame her?

I love the way Kate sticks to a simple colour Palette for her wardrobe – black, white and grey make up most of her outfits. She keeps accessories to a minimum – her most favoured accessory tends to be those Rimmel Red lips, and she is probably the only woman in the world who makes the double denim look work.

She may not be everyone’s style icon, but Kate, I totally salute your style!
