Reviewed – Clarks Aldwych Wood Boots at Cloggs

Since it was founded in 1979. Cloggs has been a great place to find branded shoes and boots at really great prices. Currently it has a fabulous range of shoes for men, women and children from the likes of Fitflop, Birkenstocks, Converse, Joules and, my personal favourite, a range from Clarks that includes shoes from the iconic Clarks Originals. Recently Cloggs got in touch to see if I would be interested in a review post, and of course, the brand I was drawn to immediately was Clarks.

The Clarks Aldwych Boots are truly the best of both worlds. I have an addiction to suede boots, always buying suede when I need new boots. Unfortunately, as pretty and stylish as suede looks, it is not the most practical of fabrics, particularly when faced with a very wet Winter/Spring like we have been this year. (As I write this, it is raining again.). That is why I love the Aldwych boots design, which incorporates a partial suede upper for a style effect, with more practical and durable leather for the rest of the boot. This boot is just gorgeous, and is a perfect match for a couple of Vivienne Westwood bags I currently have my eye on.

The Aldwych Wood is an ankle boot with a chunky 7cm heel. This makes it easy to walk on and perfect for shopping trips or the school run.  I love the durable rubber sole with Cushion Soft layers, it makes the boot extremely comfortable, even for me (I’m currently suffering with a problem ankle so comfort is extra important.) The zip fastening makes these easy to get on and off, and even when new in the box, the zip wasn’t stiff or hard to move. The boots are fairly true to size, I chose a size 5 and would probably have gone for a half size if available, but these are breaking in nicely for me.

Ankle boots are great in that they are possibly the most versatile of looks. I will always pull these on with jeans or trousers as it is a no brainer, they look great and work so well with pretty much any trouser shape. But I also love this particular boot with a skirt or dress, it toughens up the look and can also give Summer dresses a lease of life for Spring, just add opaque tights and these boots.

The Aldwych Wood boots are currently reduced to £36 from £59.99 so you can get a really big saving at the moment, making these a must buy if you are on the look out for a transitional pair of boots that will last right through Spring, and can be picked up again in Autumn.

Fashion Focus – Ankle Boots

In my humble opinion, a good pair of ankle boots, especially one with some sort of heel, is the most versatile footwear in your wardrobe, and one you should not be without when putting together any sort of capsule wardrobe. They can be worn as an everyday staple under jeans and trousers, and, if you opt for leather, they will also be all weather proof. Choose a stylish suede pair, with either a kitten or stiletto heel are perfect with a bodycon or shift dress and add an edge to any outfit.

I don’t mind admitting that, when Winter really sets in, I live in ankle boots. Currently my hero pair are from Clarks. They have a square heel, are black leather and are durable and hard wearing. I’m reaching for them every single day as they are the sort of boots that would keep you upright on an ice rink.  For evenings or more dressy occasions I am wearing a black suede pair with studs and a more spiky heel – more of a shoe boot style, and find that these are still glamorous enough to wear with a dress. (You can see those boots in this post here).

Now is a great time to invest in a new pair of ankle boots as there are some really good sales on, and many boots have got some good savings. This is great has we have at least two months of needing boots due to the weather, and most of us still remain faithful through the Spring too. (Unless of course we get a scorcher, in which case the sandals appear – and, of course, by a scorcher I mean firing the barbecue up when it reaches 14degrees…)

I have rounded up some of the designs that have caught my eye, many of which, indeed, have good savings.

Do you have a favourite pair of ankle boots that you wear all the time?

Treat your feet and grab a Clarks bargain

Ever since I was a small girl, I’ve had a thing about Clarks shoes. From those early days of funny foot measuring machines and leather t-bars that had to last the whole school year (stop growing feet! please!), to the day when I rediscovered Clarks and realised how cool and trendy the Mary Janes, Desert boots and ballerina flats had been all along, Clarks is a shop that has a special, shoe-shaped place in my heart.

And, as we slip further through Autumn, and nearer and nearer to Winter, Clarks are again spoiling us with a range of sales and discounts that make it positively rude not to indulge your shoe fetish. There are discounts of up to 30% on new season boots and shoes, as well as sales bargains with even higher discounts. If shoes are not your thing (and although I think this is sacrilegious, I will forgive you for this), then you can treat yourself to an amazing handbag, for they are also currently available at discounted and sale prices, and frankly make perfect Christmas presents for mom, sister, best friend, girlfriend and me!

Here are some of my fave picks from across the ranges. (To read my review of the Carousel Ride flats, now included in the sale, click here.)
