Horse Riding And Its Celebrity Fans

With the lockdown continuing to ease in most parts of the UK, there has been a rise in the number of people who are getting back in the saddle and enjoying horse riding all over again. The Queen was just one of the people who had missed riding during lockdown, and indeed the first published picture of her after lockdown was, inevitably, one of her riding a pony in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

It is apt then, that horse Riding is often described as the Sport of Kings, but these days it could also be as truthfully described as the sport of the glamorous celebrity. The list of well known names who have their own horses and custom built stables within the ground of their homes is both long and surprising.

Here are just some of the celebrities who take the opportunity to ride in their downtime.

Top of any list of celebrity riding fans has to be the queen of pop herself, Madonna. We all know that Madonna had a very ‘English phase’ during her marriage to film director Guy Ritchie, where, as well as drinking tea, talking with a cut glass accent and wearing a nifty line in tea dresses, Madonna developed a passion for horses that continues to this day (she currently owns two.)

I can’t help thinking that the fashion maverick just loved the look of jodphurs and a riding hat (and we all know she’s been partial to a whip at times), but the fact that she actually trained, and with none other than William Fox Pitt clearly indicates that the one time Material Girl has clearly been bitten by the riding bug.

Mary Kate Olsen

These days she is better known for her fashion designing skills along with her sister Ashley for her label ‘The Row’, but Mary Kate is actually an accomplished horsewoman who has competed, most famously at the Hampton Classic Show. From a fashionista point of view, can you imagine how stylish The Row riding apparel would be. I think Mary Kate could be onto a real winner with that.

Bella Hadid

It sort of seems apt that the coltish, beautiful Bella Hadid is another lady with a passion for being in the saddle. The lovely supermodel is said to aspire to ride in an Olympic Games, well, there’s certainly still time to get the practice in before Tokyo 2020.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga became a fan of horse after she was presented with one by her record company. She is now the proud owner of a stallion called…wait for it…Trigger. (How Original!) Gaga is one person I would totally love to see on a horse, can you imagine the fun she would have with equestrian gear, and as for the boots….

Jordan/Katie Price

No roundup of celebrity horse riding fans can be complete without some mention of Jordan/Katie Price, or whatever she happens to be calling herself this week. Katie is a lover of dressage (couldn’t you guess that a woman obsessed with pink would also love the idea of dancing horses) and is actually, all joking aside, an accomplished horsewoman who is very passionate about horse sports, also playing polo. She even had her own equestrian clothing line, KP equestrian, which, as you can probably imagine, was very pink, very tongue in cheek and a whole lot of fun. After all, who could resist a ‘50 shades of hay’ t-shirt…

Are you a fan of horses, have you ever tried horse riding?

Reviewed – Pearl Rondel Bracelet from Pearl and Clasp

In general, the jewellery I own is costume stuff. I love statement necklaces, plastic bangles, little treasures I’ve picked up on my travels abroad and diamante bling. Most of my jewellery has sentimental, rather than actual value. But there is an exception to the rule. I love pearls. Pearls are the birthstone for June, they are a jewel that always looks pretty but with an edge of cool, Marianne Faithful, Marilyn Monroe and Madonna are just some of the icons who have worn pearls to make a fashion statement. Pearls are a style classic, always current, and always a statement.

American Company Pearl and Clasp have a fantastic range of freshwater pearl jewellery that ranges from fashion to classic pieces. I was recently sent a gorgeous piece from the brand, the Pearl Rondel bracelet. This is a beautiful bracelet made up of 6mm freshwater pearls combined with silver and cubic zircona rondels at different intervals of the bracelet. At the centre of the bracelet is a silver and cubic zircona bead which brings to mind those used by Tresor Paris.

This is a really lovely piece. The string is elastic, and this means that the bracelet is very easy to get on and off – there’s no fiddling with clasps or needing to ask another person to fasten your bracelet. The stones are both delicate and eye catching, with the silver sections really sparkling in different lights.

This is a wear anywhere piece. It is small and delicate enough to be suitable to wear as an everyday item, but would also look amazing when teamed with a little black dress. I think this would be a fabulous bracelet for a bridesmaid to wear, or as a bridesmaid gift from a grateful bride. This would be lovely as a first piece of jewellery for a little girl because of the ease of putting it on and off, but is certainly lovely enough for any grown up little girl (ahem!) to love too. The one thing I would say is that it may not be suitable for ladies with larger wrists, I have a slight gap in the elastic which I hide at the back of my wrist. But, other than that, I think this is pretty gorgeous by anyone’s standards.

Seven Popular Ways to Accessorize Your Formal Dress

Attending a formal event can be a stressful endeavor. After all, it’s not everyday that you put on a fancy dress. Once you find the formal dress that works with the dress code and accentuates your features, you can determine the right accessories. After all, accessories like evening shawls, jewellery, and clutches are great options to make the most of your dress. In particular, the following are seven popular accessories for formal wear.

1 – Pearls

Pearls are one of the most classic types of jewellery. They have not lost their allure, and they look amazing with formal dresses. Even better, there are a variety of different types of pearls available to choose from. Many people are wearing longer strands of pearls that draw attention to their bust. This is a great option for halter-top dresses or low cut dresses.

2 – Bracelets

Bracelets also look great with formal wear. In fact, the layered bracelet look can be worn at formal events. However, it is important to wear the right bracelets. They need to be filled with any of the following elements:

  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Rhinestones
  • Diamonds
  • Gems

Basically, they should look fancy enough for a formal setting. If you are wearing a strapless dress or a sleeveless dress, this trend will create interest without overpowering your ensemble.

3 – Shawls

Since it can get cold at nighttime events, it might be wise to bring along a shawl. There are several formal shawls that will look great with your dress. In addition to providing extra warmth, this accessory is great if you do not want to show your arms during the event.

4 – Long Necklaces

A long necklace is a great juxtaposition with a strapless dress. This trend was seen on several runway shows and it can easily be worn during your formal event. For the most visually pleasing look, it is best to find a necklace that hangs just past your ribcage.

5 – Bold Earrings

If you are going to pull your hair up for the event, then a bold pair of earrings might be a great option to complete your look. These types of earrings can draw attention to your face and help you stand out in a crowd. There are multiple options for bold earrings including chandelier earrings or large diamond studs.

6 – Clutches

It is hard to attend a formal event without a clutch. This is a must-have accessory for most women. Even more, it is particularly important that the clutch matches the formal dress you are wearing. Otherwise, you will not look as put together during your event.

7 – Gloves

Gloves are fun accessories to wear during formal events. Although most people only wear them at white tie events, it is completely acceptable for gloves to be worn at other occasions. In fact, gloves actually make sense at a winter weather event. They also look appropriate with certain dresses. Even better, they were a popular trend on the runway. Thus, when you wear this accessory, you will be in style.

These seven options are great accessories that might add to your formal wear. In many instances, you can wear more than one of these trends at a time. Try them at your next formal occasion so you look amazing.
