Fashion and Shopping history – The Hodson Shop Collection
The Hodson shop collection is a slice of shopping history and a story worthy of a book. Two sisters, Edith and Flora Hodson, opened a shop in the front room of their house in Willenhall, West Midlands, in 1920. The shop sold all manner of ladies apparel and accessories, along with toiletries and fragrances. The shop is open until 1971, when Flora, finding the running of the shop difficult after her sister’s death, decided to shut the shop. However, the shop was not closed properly, Flora simply closed the door, leaving the shop and stock intact. After Flora’s death in 1983, the unique collection was discovered and handed over to…

Luc Belaire and Ben Eine Collaboration at Selfridges Birmingham
I love a good collaboration, and when it involves a cool street artist and a French premium wine brand, so much the better. Selfridges are currently, exclusively offering just this, with a collaboration between Luc Belaire and Ben Eine. Ben has designed a limited edition custom-made backpack as part of a Belaire gift set. Ben Eine is, without doubt, one of street-art’s most established names, and his work can be seen throughout London, where his giant, colourful letters and words adorn whole swathes of the city’s shop fronts and walls. He hit headlines when his piece ‘21st Century City’ was given as a gift by David Cameron to Barack Obama…

Autumn is almost here. Along with the crisper and cooler temperatures and colourful leaves comes great excuses to eat delicious comfort food, dress in delightfully warm and stylish clothing and carry the perfect fall clutch to work or shopping. August Outfit Post
August is, without doubt, one of my favourite months of the year. I get to spend quality time with Joe, enjoy lazyish days (as I work all through the night I might add) and then spend some time with my family in Wales. And this year, Wales actually had sunshine, which was lovely, and quite possibly a miracle! The wardrobe choices in August reflected the weather, and, as ever, featured wardrobe faves which highlight why buying classic pieces is always a good move. The black floral dress from F&F has been making regular appearances for the past couple of years, as have my trusty 70s style Clarks tan sandals. There…

My love/hate for Rodarte.
I’m in love/hate for Rodarte. I really don’t know whether I love the designs, or hate them. At their most creative the Rodarte sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy conjure up designs that can be described as beautiful, ethereal, wispy, ghostlike, and truly stunning. You imagine tragic heroines like Ophelia, Juliet, Camille and Mimi from La Boheme experiencing glamorous suffering in Rodarte. Rodarte would’ve been the designers of choice for those lost generation divas Zelda Sayre and Lady Otterline Morrell. D W Griffiths would’ve used their costumes to clothe Lilian Gish in all those fab silent weepies like ‘The Wind’. Rodarte is truly beautiful… But then I get to thinking again…
